Swedish-Georgian talks on a Readmission Agreement

On 29-30 January, 2008 in Stockholm delegations of Sweden and Georgia held talks on elaboration of an intergovernmental agreement on Readmission of Persons. As a result of the negotiations the delegations agreed upon the text to such an agreement, which was initials by the heads of delegations – Mr. Lars Magnuson, ambassador, Ministry of Justice of Sweden and Mr. Konstantine Surguladze, director of Consular Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia. The Georgian delegation expressed the wish that the parties, within the limits of their capacities and resources, will cooperate for the reintegration of persons returning to Georgia. The Swedish delegation, from its turn, took note of this desire and explained that persons returning to Georgia will be able to apply for a readmission grant. According to Swedish laws, persons who intend to return voluntarily to the country of origin may, upon application, receive a certain allowance provided that they return to a country which has very limited means and resources to reintegrate returnees.  The text of the Agreement will be forwarded to the respective Governments for approval and preparation for signing.
