Statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia for Georgian citizens residing illegally abroad

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia has in the recent period issued a number of statements warning the citizens of Georgia staying illegally or using illegal methods to cross the borders of foreign countries.

Despite the efforts of the diplomatic missions and consular offices of Georgia accredited abroad to protect the rights and interests of people falling under the aforesaid category, a majority of Georgian citizens, in case of gross violation of immigration laws, face deportation or, in worse cases, face criminal charges and imprisonment.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia once again warns the citizens of Georgia intending to enter to, or stay illegally on the territory of a foreign country, to refrain from such intentions and disregard any offers and proposals allowing them illegally to cross the border, get jobs, obtain a refugee status and enjoy other privileges.

In many cases such proposals result in trafficking, involve severe health problems and even end fatally.
