Lecture on Aleksandre Bagrationi’s life and activities in Sweden

On October 26, 2007 the Embassy of Georgia and the Georgian Society in Sweden jointly organized an event where Professor Juansher Vateishvili gave a lecture at the Embassy of Georgia. The scientist was personally invited to take part in this gathering as a keynote speaker and on this occasion he flew from Moscow to Stockholm. He gave a lecture about prominent Georgian and Russian public and military figure – Aleksandre Bagrationi. The Prince of Imereti’s life and his activities in Sweden in the beginning of XVIII century were highlighted during the event.

The seminar was attended by many Swedish and Georgian guests: historians, researchers, students, business and Diaspora representatives. Many questions were raised concerning the biography of Aleksandre Bagrationi, his imprisonment in Sweden, discrepancies on the inscription on his memorial plaque, which Professor Juansher Vateishvili and Stockholm Municipality unveiled in Stockholm in 1996.

Mr. Juansher Vateishvili presented to the Embassy his seven-volume monograph works, which will be placed on the shelves of the Embassy’s library. His research is devoted to the Georgian-Russian relations, as well as relations between Georgia and Western European countries. One book is dedicated to the life and activities of Aleksandre Bagrationi in Sweden.

This evening was the first joint event organized by the Embassy of Georgia and Georgian Society.
