Visit of Swedish parliamentary delegation to Georgia


On the 14th of May 2012, the Georgian First Deputy Foreign Minister, Mr. Nikoloz Vashakidze, and the Deputy Foreign Minister, Mr. Tornike Gordadze, held a meeting with representatives of the ruling Swedish Moderate Party's Committee for Foreign Affairs during their visit to Georgia. The Swedish delegation was headed by Ms. Walburga Habsburg Douglas - a member of the Committee for Foreign Affairs and the Chairperson of the Swedish Parliamentary delegation to the OSCE.

Both sides discussed a wide range of issues concerning bilateral political, economic and cultural relations between Georgia and Sweden during this meeting, focusing on the urgency of the need to enhance economic relations between the two countries and on future prospects of co-operation in this respect. The delegations also discussed current regional and international issues, dynamics of Georgian-Swedish relations, co-operation between Georgia and NATO and current processes in Georgia. The Swedish delegation reaffirmed its country's support for Georgia's territorial integrity and aspirations towards European integration.

The Swedish Parliamentary delegation is on 5-day visit to Georgia. On the 13th of May, the delegation visited the new premises of the Georgian Parliament in Kutaisi. The members of the delegation are also due to meet the Georgian President, Mr. Mikhail Saakashvili; the Speaker of Georgia's Parliament, Mr. Davit Bakradze; the Secretary of Georgia's National Security Council, Mr. Giorgi Bokeria; the State Minister for Reintegration Issues, Mrs. Eka Tkeshelashvili; and representatives of the Georgian Parliament.
