Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia met with Special Envoy of the Swedish EU Presidency to Georgia

On August 21, 2009 Mr. Grigol Vashadze, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia met Mr. Fredrik Löjdquist, Special Envoy of the Swedish EU Presidency to Georgia.

The sides mainly discussed priority issues on EU-Georgia cooperation agenda. Mr. F. Löjdquist underlined that appointment of a Special Envoy of the Swedish Presidency to Georgia proves the priority which Sweden attaches to the strengthening of cooperation with Georgia. He also discussed ways and possibilities of further deepening of EU-Georgia relations before the end of the year 2009, including prospects of the Association Agreement and the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement. Mr. F. Löjdquist stressed that the Swedish Presidency is keen to enhance cooperation in the frameworks of the Eastern Partnership and elaborate concrete proposals with regard to its effective implementation.

During the meeting the sides underlined the significant role of the EUMM in promoting security and stability in Georgia.

Mr. G. Vashadze stressed the importance of Swedish Presidency's support to Georgia and welcomed the appointment of a Special Envoy to Georgia, with whom the Georgian side is ready to work intensively to ensure further considerable progress in priority areas of the EU-Georgia cooperation.
