Sweden hosted a seminar devoted to the Georgian children’s literature

On 11 May 2010 the seminar on Georgian children's literature was held at the Swedish Institute for Children's books. The Georgian writers: Mr. Sandro Asatiani - author of children's books and illustrator, Ms. Sopio Kinzurashvili - illustrator and Ms. Maka Mikeladze - writer, participated in the seminar.  At the seminar Georgian authors presented their work and gave a short introduction to the Georgian children's literature. They discussed the current situation in this field, how to bridge the gap between Swedish and Georgian approaches to children's literature and to discuss the state of the art of what is topical in children's literature studies both in Georgia and Sweden. Besides under discussion were issues related to the development of the literature in different historical periods, especially during and after the collapse of the Soviet Union and the nowadays tendencies. The representatives of the Children's Literature Foundation also participated in the visit. The visit was a part of the joint project elaborated by the Swedish Institute, the Swedish Children's Book Institute, Swedish Writers' Union, the Association of Swedish Illustrators and Graphic Designers and Georgian writers and illustrators. In November 2009 a Georgian-Swedish workshop was held in Tbilisi and Batumi for children's writers and illustrators. During the visit of Swedish authors to Georgia a two-day conference was arranged in Tbilisi for publishers, writers, illustrators, librarians, journalists and others working in this field. The overall plan of the cooperation is to jointly publish a book in the near future devoted to the children of both countries.
