Sweden shears its experience with Georgia in the field of competition policy

On 27-29 of September Georgian delegation headed by the leadership of the Agency for Free Trade and Competition of Georgia and the expert-advisory group of Prime Minister of Georgia visited Stockholm.  In the framework of a three-day working visit, the meetings were held with senior officials of the Swedish Competition Agency, representatives of the Ministry of Enterprise, Energy and Communications and the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA). In the nearest future the two sides will elaborate a long-term framework agreement on cooperation and a working plan, which will be updated periodically. The documents will contain the terms and references for both sides in the view of institutional development of the Agency for Free Trade and Competition of Georgia. The bilateral cooperation foresees sharing of Swedish experience and expertise knowledge to ensure fairness of competition and public procurement in Georgia. It should be emphasized, that the Swedish model of competition and liberal trade approaches is very close to a desired model for the Georgian side. The above-mentioned interagency cooperation is in accordance with the development strategy of Sweden towards Georgia and aims to prepare and help the Government of Georgia during negotiations on the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement with the EU Commission and thereafter thorough implementation of this agreement.
