Presentation of credentials to the President of the Republic of Finland H.E. Mrs. Tarja Halonen

On the 8th February 2007Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia Mr. Amiran Kavadze presented letters of credence to the President of the Republic of Finland H.E. Mrs. Tarja Halonen at the Presidential Palace in Helsinki.

A tête-à-tête meeting was held after the ceremony. The Head of State expressed interest in the processes taking place in Georgia and commented on the current state of relations between the Russian Federation and Georgia. The President of Finland has emphasized willingness to continue dialog with Russian leadership on improvement of Russian-Georgian relationship. Besides she expressed readiness to support European Aspirations of Georgia and democratic building-up processes in the country on both bilateral and multilateral levels.

The recent positive developments taking place in Georgia were discussed during the meeting as well. The president of Finland was provided with detailed information about the progress achieved in the economic field and new perspectives of regional cooperation. The President of Finland expressed an interest towards the upcoming visit of President of Georgia Mr. Mikheil Saakashvili to Finland to be held in October, 2007. She welcomed the proposal to organize the Days of Georgian Culture and Finnish-Georgian Business Forum in Helsinki. The President considered it expedient to convene these events during the visit of the President of Georgia to Finland.

At the end of the meeting, Mrs. Tarja Halonen wished all the best and success to the Georgian State and the newly appointed Georgian Ambassador to Finland and pledged her full support to the head of the Georgian diplomatic representation during his work both in Sweden and Finland.
